  • What is reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates is a type of Pilates workout that uses a specialized piece of equipment called a reformer. This machine consists of a sliding carriage, springs for resistance, and adjustable bars, which together create a versatile and customizable workout experience. Here’s a quick breakdown of what makes Reformer Pilates unique: Equipment: The reformer is a bed-like apparatus with a movable carriage that slides back and forth. Springs attached to the carriage provide resistance, which can be adjusted to make exercises easier or more challenging. Resistance Training: The resistance from the springs helps to strengthen muscles and improve flexibility. The ability to adjust the resistance allows for a wide range of exercises that can be tailored to different fitness levels and goals. Core Focus: Like traditional Pilates, Reformer Pilates places a strong emphasis on core strength, stability, and alignment. The exercises are designed to engage and strengthen the core muscles while also working other areas of the body. Low Impact: The reformer provides a smooth, controlled motion, which makes the exercises gentler on the joints compared to some other forms of exercise. This low-impact nature makes it suitable for people of various fitness levels and those with injuries or joint issues. Versatility: The reformer allows for a wide variety of exercises that can target different muscle groups and incorporate both strength and flexibility training. Exercises can be performed lying down, sitting, kneeling, or standing.
  • What should I bring/wear to practice Pilates?
For your safety, and to make your experience practicing on a reformer more comfortable and effective, we highly recommend that you wear non-slip grip socks. If you don't already have a pair of your own, we have socks available for purchase at the studio. Other than that, wear comfortable and flexible clothes that allow you freedom of movement in a number of different positions. Most of our members also bring a towel and a bottle of water. A bottle fill station is located in our lobby if you need a refill. Each reformer station has a small cubby to store any other belongings you happen to have with you.
